Microneedling works by creating tiny micro-channels beneath the surface of the skin at a superficial level. These micro-wounds trigger the body’s natural healing response, boosting collagen and elastin production, as well as accelerating cell turnover. This process results in the creation of new tissue for a firmer, smoother and glowing complexion.

During Microneedling, your therapist can opt to complement your treatment with the use of targeted serums, as microchannels will allow the active ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin for enhanced results.

There is a certain level of discomfort associated with the procedure. However, patients usually describe Microneedling as tolerable. If you are concerned about pain during your treatment, ask your therapists about the possibility of using a numbing agent half an hour before your session to minimize discomfort.

This procedure has a short recovery period following treatment. This period can be shorter or longer, depending on the individual, and will usually last up to five days. During this short time, your body will be working hard at regenerating tissue, which is why it is advised that you avoid skin stressors in order to obtain the best possible results.

Your skin may feel tight during the first 24 hours following your treatment. This is entirely normal and resolves within a day. Some patients also experience redness, swelling and sensitivity as well. You might not experience all symptoms, as responses vary from individual to individual. Discomfort usually resolves within 24 hours of your treatment.

Results are usually visible within three to five days, depending on the individual. Once your skin has healed, you will see Microneedling’s typical results: a bouncy, fresh, and glowing complexion.

After-care is critical in order to achieve optimal results. Failing to comply with your therapist’s after-care advice can result in hindered results or adverse reactions. It is generally advised that after your Microneedling session you:

• Keep your skin moisturized
• Keep your skin away from direct sun exposure
• Avoid using products with harsh chemicals or exfoliants that can irritate your skin
• Avoid physical exercise in the first 24 hours following your treatment
• Wear SPF at all times

Microneedling is a safe procedure that can only be performed in a skin clinic by a trained skin therapist. At Luminous Skin and Laser, your therapists will only use single-use disposable cartridges and comply with the strictest sanitary regulations for your utmost safety.

The number of sessions required to achieve optimal results varies from individual to individual. During your first consultation, your therapists will assess your case and advise you accordingly. As a general estimate, patients usually require three sessions in order to achieve their desired results.
